Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement Division coordinates all code enforcement activity, addressing public nuisance violations (recorded through field observation, citizen/Council/Police Department/staff requests). They provide all necessary follow-up, including enforcement action resulting in Municipal Court appearance for unresolved violations, and feedback as necessary to complainants.
The following are lists that can be used as a guideline to assess current or potential problems in your area:
Exterior Property Area
- Permanent or temporary signs
- Sanitation (i.e. trash, debris, waste)
Exterior Structure
- Exterior walls
- Protective treatment (i.e. paint)
- Roofs and drainage
- Stairways, decks, porches, balconies and skirting for mobile homes
- Street numbers
Public Nuisances
- Dead or dying trees
- Old appliances
- Pond or pool of stagnant water
- Rat harborage
- Sanitation (i.e. trash, debris, waste)
Tall Grass and Weeds
- Should not exceed 8 inches for vacant lots and 8 inches for lots containing a structure
Vehicles Declared a Nusiance
- Abandoned
- Dismantled
- Expired or unlicensed
- Inoperative
- Wrecked
Commercial Vehicle Parking (Ord. 5709)
- No commercial or industrial tractor or semi-tractor with or without an attached trailer shall be parked in a residential area or driveway
Recreational Vehicle Parking
- Boats, trailers, camper shells and RVs must be licensed
- Must be placed within an enclosed garage or accessory structure, or on a paved surface
Home-based Businesses
- Permit required for home businesses
