O’Fallon’s Patriot Day Ceremony is Monday, September 11

The public is invited to attend the City of O’Fallon’s annual Patriot Day ceremony, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 11, at the City’s 9-11 First Responders Memorial.

Created with steel salvaged from the attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, the monument is located in the parking lot on the east side of O’Fallon’s Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366.

O’Fallon, MO recognized as one of the top 100 safest cities in the nation

The National Council of Home Safety and Security listed O’Fallon, Missouri, as one of the “100 Safest Cities in America 2017.” The organization is made up of home safety and security industries. O’Fallon is the only Missouri city named on the report, which ranks O’Fallon as 43rd safest city. Read the report at www.alarms.org/top-100-safest-cities-in-america-2017.

To identify the nation’s safest cities, the council reviewed FBI Uniform Crime Report Statistics. The cities’ rankings were then based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 100,000 people.

Residents are reminded that fireworks are illegal in O’Fallon, Missouri

O’Fallon residents and visitors are reminded that by City ordinance, it is illegal for anyone in O’Fallon, Missouri, City limits to:

  • Buy
  • Sell
  • Possess, store
  • Or discharge fireworks

The fireworks ban is set out in City Ordinance 215.690, which prohibits the possession and/or discharging of fireworks. Those found in violation of the ordinance can be ticketed and fined and may have to appear in court. To report violations of the City’s fireworks ordinance, please call the Police Department’s non-emergency line, 636-240-3200.

Free Senior Citizens Police Academy presentations start June 6 at the O’Fallon Senior Center

Seniors who are interested in police work and law enforcement issues geared to seniors are invited to attend the free Senior Citizens Police Academy 2017at the O’Fallon Senior Center, 106 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Beginning Tuesday, June 6, classes will meet from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the month. No registration is necessary and all seniors are welcome. Attendance is encouraged at every session but not required to complete the program.

National Council for Home Safety and Security ranks O’Fallon 9th on list of Missouri’s 50 safest cities

The National Council of Home Safety and Security this week published its “Safest Cities in Missouri” report which includes O’Fallon, Missouri, as 9th safest of Missouri’s cities with populations of more than 5,000. The average size of the cities the organization deemed safest is 26,562. With a population of 85,040, O’Fallon is easily the largest of the cities of the report’s top 10. Read the report here.

To identify Missouri’s safest cities, the council reviewed FBI Uniform Crime Report Statistics from 2016 along with the organization’s own population data and internal research. The cities’ rankings were then based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 100,000 people.
