Get ready for Veterans’ Day by stepping into the historic Heald Home (circa 1884) from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, and chatting with Vietnam-era veterans about the exhibit of military uniforms, a field radio, C-rations, weapons, ammunition and memorabilia that will be on display for the afternoon. The weapons and ammunition are inert and cannot be fired.
“This is a hands-on display,” said Sheldon Hartsfield, spokesperson for VVA Chapter 458. “People will be able to pick the items up and even put on a helmet and field gear and see for themselves how much weight we used to carry running through the jungle.”
On Monday, November 11, a Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., at Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Veterans Memorial Parkway, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony.
Directions to the exhibit: On I-70, take Exit 217 at Highways K / M (Main Street) in O’Fallon, drive south on Highway K for one block to the stoplight at Veterans Memorial Parkway; turn right (west) and drive about one mile to the Fort Zumwalt Park entrance on the left.
