Military Times ranks O’Fallon, Missouri, as 2nd on its list of 2017 Best Cities for Veterans to Live

Military Times named the City of O’Fallon, Missouri, as the second best city in the country for veterans. Military Times publishes monthly news magazines for U.S. military personnel and veterans.

O’Fallon placed second on the publication’s list of the “Top 50 Small Cities” nationwide. This is the third time that O’Fallon has been listed by Military Times as one of the best cities for veterans, and the City’s highest ranking to date.

O’Fallon’s candlelight POW/MIA Ceremony recognizes American military personnel who remain missing in the field

On Friday, September 15, at 7 p.m., O’Fallon’s annual POW/MIA Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held on behalf of the 82,500 American troops from foreign wars who remain as prisoners of war or unaccounted for, and the families who are waiting for their return. The ceremony will be held at O’Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Veterans Memorial Parkway, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366.

Welcoming remarks will be delivered by O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy, and the keynote speaker will be Kaitlyn Bross, a senior at St. Dominic High School. The ceremony is hosted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 458 and Am Vets Post 106, and includes posting of the colors, dressing of the table, candle lighting, the laying of the wreath, a rifle salute and "Taps." Music will be provided by the Living Word Christian School Band.

O’Fallon’s Purple Heart Parking Program dedicates parking spaces in City Parks to combat-wounded

The City of O’Fallon has embraced the national movement to provide designated parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients. The Purple Heart is a U.S. military medal awarded in the name of the President to soldiers who have been wounded or killed in enemy combat.

Beginning this week, parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients are being marked in City parks: CarShield Field, Veterans Walk, Civic Park, Dames Park, Fort Zumwalt Park, the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex, at the Renaud Spirit Center, Sports Park I, Sports Park II and Westhoff Park.

O’Fallon’s Memorial Day ceremony

A Memorial Day Ceremony commemorating U.S. military personnel who died while in service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 29, at O’Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Belleau Creek Road, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Free parking is available.

Elizabeth (Betty) Gonzales will be the keynote speaker for the event. A former U.S. Marine, Ms. Gonzales is the Missouri State Commander for the American Legion. She is the first woman to be elected to that office.

City of O’Fallon’s 2017 Memorial Day schedule, ceremony

In observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29, the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, and the O’Fallon Parks and Recreation Administration Offices, 400 Civic Park Drive, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366, will be closed for the day.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony, which begin at 11 a.m. at O’Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Belleau Creek Road, O’Fallon 63366. O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy will deliver welcoming remarks and Elizabeth A. Gonzales, Commander of the Missouri American Legion, will be the keynote speaker.

Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center, 403 Civic Park Drive (63366), will be open for the season daily starting Saturday, May 27, with normal pool hours of 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, noon – 7 p.m. on Sundays, and noon – 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.   • O’Fallon’s indoor recreation complex, the Renaud Spirit Center (RSC) at 2650 Tri Sports Circle (63368) will be open on Memorial Day with special hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. www.renaudspiritcenter.com
  • O’Fallon’s trash, recycling and yardwaste service will not change due to the holiday. Residents enrolled in the service should put trash, recycling and yard waste out for collection on their regularly-scheduled day through the week.
