O’Fallon’s zero-interest Home Improvement Loan Program can help low-income homeowners with repairs

Does your home need a new furnace, air conditioning, new windows or other repairs? Homeowners with a low-to-moderate income are encouraged to find out if they qualify for assistance through the City’s Home Improvement Loan Program (HILP), which offers forgivable five-year loans of up to $5,000 for home maintenance.

 “If you have been putting off necessary home repairs, you’re encouraged to find out if O’Fallon’s Home Improvement Loan Program (HILP) can help with getting a new furnace or air conditioning installed, electrical work, plumbing, siding for your house, roof repair and other improvements,” said Jessica Hawkins, Public Assistance Specialist for the City of O’Fallon. “Right now, there are only nine spots available. Applications and information about the program are posted on the City of O’Fallon website at www.ofallon.mo.us/CDBG.”

Martin Luther King, Jr., Day schedule for City of O’Fallon

On Monday, January 21, the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall) will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. In addition:

  • O’Fallon’s Parks and Recreation Administrative office also will be closed.
  • The Renaud Spirit Center (RSC) recreation complex will be open with regular business hours of 5:15 a.m. – 10 p.m. The RSC is located at 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O’Fallon, MO 63368. www.renaudspiritcenter.com
  • City of O’Fallon volunteers who have registered for the “King Day of Service” will meet at 9 a.m. for service projects at City Hall. For more information, visit www.ofallon.mo.us/volunteer.
  • O’Fallon’s trash and recycling collection schedule will not change due to the holiday.

O’Fallon’s Bingo program includes lunch, games, prizes

Sign up for an entertaining afternoon on Friday, January 25, that includes a tasty lunch followed by playing Bingo for prizes until 3 p.m. Bingo will be held at Renaud Spirit Center (RSC), 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O’Fallon, Missouri 63368. The cost of $15 for residents and $18 for non-residents includes admission, lunch, and Bingo prizes.

The deadline to sign up for Bingo is Sunday, January 20. O’Fallon’s Parks and Recreation Department offers three ways to register for programs:

O’Fallon’s Citizens Police Academy open to adults who live or work in St. Charles County

For a dynamic course in police operations, enroll in the O’Fallon Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy. Beginning March 5, the six-week class will meet from 6:45-9:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Enrollment is open to anyone age 18 or older who lives, works or attends school in St. Charles County. Cost for the course is $30. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, February 26.

“People from all walks of life are encouraged to attend the Academy, which is only offered once a year,” said Police Officer Tim Bateman, the academy’s director. “Whether you’re a member of a neighborhood association, or considering a career in law enforcement or if you would just like to know more about law enforcement, the academy offers the best opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at police operations. Academy graduates also become eligible for police-related volunteering opportunities, if they choose.”

O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy to deliver the annual “State of the City” address, live

The City of O’Fallon’s Mayor, Bill Hennessy, will deliver his annual “State of the City” address at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, in the City Council Chambers at O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366.

The public is invited to attend the event. The “State of the City” address also will be broadcast live from the O’Fallon City Council Chambers on O’FallonTV Channel 991, and via the City’s website at www.ofallon.mo.us.

Candidate filing ending for O’Fallon, Missouri’s municipal election

Tuesday, January 15, will be the final day to file Declarations of Candidacy for the City of O’Fallon’s April 2, 2013 election. Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted in the City Clerk’s office at the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The April 2, 2013 election is being held to elect a Mayor to serve a four-year term, and to elect one City Council member from each of O’Fallon’s five wards to serve three-year terms.

Author Ross Malone will autograph and sell copies of books about Missouri

Meet author, traveler, retired teacher and historian Ross Malone from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, at the historic Heald Home, located in Fort Zumwalt Park at 1000 Jessup Drive, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Malone will sign and sell copies of his latest book, Too Good to Pass By: A Look at Some Missouri Places. Copies of his Tales from Missouri and the Heartland also will be available. The book was selected for the Missouri Life Magazine Book List and placed in the Missouri Association of Librarians “Author’s Alley.” Admission is $2 per person at the door and includes a tour of the house. Register for an afternoon of fun by competing in the Human Dogsled Race at “Cabin Fever Daze”

Mush! Get your team together and enter the Human Dogsled Race, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26. The race is one of the main attractions for Cabin Fever Daze, O’Fallon’s new winter festival, which will be held on January 25 – 27 in O’Fallon Sports Park.

Cabin Fever Daze admission and parking are free. In addition to the Human Dogsled Race, event highlights include ice skating on O’Fallon’s first outdoor rink, broomball, ice carving, a fire performer, the Snowshoe Obstacle Course, and Fruit Cake Chuckin’. Event hours are: Friday, 4-8 p.m., Saturday, noon-8 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.

Vendors sought for O’Fallon’s “Cabin Fever Daze” festival

The City of O’Fallon, Missouri, is seeking vendors for its winter festival, Cabin Fever Daze, which will be held January 25 – 27 in O’Fallon Sports Park. Spaces are available for vendors selling food and beverages as well as hats, scarves, mittens, blankets and other cold-weather related items.

Event highlights include ice skating on O’Fallon’s first outdoor rink, the Human Dogsled Race, broomball, ice carving, a fire performer, the Snowshoe Obstacle Course, and Fruit Cake Chuckin’. Event hours are Friday, 4-8 p.m., Saturday, noon-8 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.

Celebrate winter with wild and crazy fun at O’Fallon’s “Cabin Fever Daze”

Light-hearted, whacky games and old-fashioned fun are in store for the City of O’Fallon, Missouri’s new winter festival, Cabin Fever Daze. The event will be held on January 25 – 27 in O’Fallon Sports Park, with festival hours of 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, noon - 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 1- 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
