Test your fitness level by competing in O’Fallon’s 11th Annual Alligator’s Creek Triathlon

If you enjoy a challenge and like to swim, bike and run, sign up for O’Fallon, Missouri’s 11th Annual Alligator’s Creek Triathlon, which will be held from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 11. The race begins at Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center, 403 Civic Park Drive, O’Fallon 63366, with a 300-yard serpentine swim, followed by an 18.6-mile bike ride and a 5K run through City streets. Awards will be given to the top three overall winners and in age-group divisions.

The cost to register through Thursday, July 18, is $49 for individuals and $88 for teams. The field is limited to 300 participants. A $10 late fee will be added to the registration fee from July 19 through August 1, the deadline to register for the event. T-shirts are not guaranteed to late registrants.

O’Fallon hosting Economic Development Strategic Plan Open House

The public is invited to attend the City of O’Fallon, Missouri’s Economic Development Strategic Plan Open House meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23. The event will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Mike Hurlbert, the City’s Economic Development Director, will be the meeting facilitator.

The purpose of the meeting is to present the Draft Economic Development Strategic Plan for the City of O’Fallon. The strategic plan is a culmination of all the information gathering and analysis completed during the planning process so far. The document will serve as the guide for future economic development efforts and move the community toward its desired goals for economic prosperity.

Traffic alert: Highway N lane closures scheduled for Thursday may mean traffic delays

Weather permitting, on Thursday, May 16, from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. drivers can expect some lane closures at the intersection of Highway N, WingHaven Boulevard and Bryan Road. During this time, the intersection will be a four-way stop as work on traffic signals proceeds. Signs will alert drivers, but some delays can be expected.

Free bulk waste drop-off for O’Fallon residents coming up

If you are an O’Fallon resident who is enrolled in the City’s trash and recycling service, you’re invited to use the City’s free, bi-monthly drop-off for many items that are too large to fit into curbside trash containers. The next drop-off date will be Saturday, April 20, from 7 a.m.–3 p.m. Acceptable items can be brought to O’Fallon’s waste transfer station, 1572 Progress West Lane, O’Fallon, MO 63366.

O’Fallon residents must have a current photo ID with their O’Fallon address. Only one load per household will be accepted per day, and only cars, pickup trucks, and small trailers no more than 10 feet long will be allowed. Residents also must unload their own items.

Spring cleaning? Check out O’Fallon’s free bulk waste drop off for city residents

O’Fallon residents are invited to take advantage of the City’s free, bi-monthly drop-off service for many items that are too large to fit into curbside trash containers. The first drop-off of the year will be held 7 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, February 16. Acceptable items can be brought to O’Fallon’s waste transfer station, 1572 Progress West Lane, O’Fallon, MO 63366. Additional drop-off dates will be held on Saturdays, only, from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on April 20, June 15, August 17, October 19, and December 21.

O’Fallon’s Great Backyard Bird Count

Can you come out and help count the birds? Join in O’Fallon’s Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), which will be held on Saturday, February 9, in scenic Fort Zumwalt Park, 1000 Jessup Drive, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Anyone can participate, including beginning bird watchers, families and experts. Bring binoculars, if possible. There’s no cost for parking.

The count will take place at various times between 8 and 11 a.m. With the help of a list of birds, participants will observe and record sightings for at least 15 minutes but no more than an hour, then warm up in the historic Heald Home. The cost of $2 includes a tour of the home, which is hosting an exhibit of photographs of Missouri birds taken by members of the O’Fallon Photo Club and photographer Ferman Carrillo.

City of O’Fallon will hold a public hearing for the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program for Fiscal Year 2012

O’Fallon’s Finance Department wins financial reporting award

The City of O’Fallon, Missouri’s Finance Department has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The award was presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“This award is another example of the City of O’Fallon’s mission of making City government operations transparent and open,” said Tom Drabelle, O’Fallon’s Director of Communications and Public Relations. “In judging O’Fallon’s CAFR, the GFOA commended the City for demonstrating a constructive spirit of disclosure in reporting O’Fallon’s financial story.”

Faith County coming to the O’Fallon Municipal Centre stage

O’FallonTheatreWorks’ production of the southern-fried comedy, Faith County, will be performed on April 19-21 and 26-28 in the auditorium-theater at O’Fallon’s Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. The curtain will go up at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Set in a small southern town where the beehive hairdo is still the rage and Saturday nights are reserved for the tractor pull, the story unfolds at the Faith County Fairgrounds, where a colorful collection of town and country folk exchange insider gossip about one another and show off their handiwork, with especially stiff competition in the arts and crafts category. Originally written as a radio show by Mark Langdon Smith, Faith County enjoyed a 35-week run on WLYX in Georgia, and it was featured as a special on NBC TV’s Dateline.

Sign up for O’Fallon’s free disaster preparedness training

Get prepared for emergencies and disasters in a weekend! Anyone who lives or works in or near O’Fallon is invited to sign up to learn basic disaster response skills by attending the O’Fallon Police Department’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training March 1-3, in the Public Works Building at 1089 Public Service Drive, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. The free, 20-hour course is taught by the O’Fallon Police Department and emergency professionals.
