Food trucks, music by Biscuits and Gravy, activities for all ages at O’Fallon’s Food Truck Frenzy in Sports Park

Enjoy great food and music at O’Fallon’s Food Truck Frenzy on Friday, June 2, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. in Sports Park, 3589 Highway K, O’Fallon MO 63368. Admission and parking are free and Biscuits and Gravy will entertain with country, rock and Top 40s hits.

Rendezvous Café & Wine Bar will sell adult beverages, and Doughboys Wood Fired Pizza, Wayno’s Mobile International Cuisine, Thai Jasmine, STL BLT, Twisted Taco, Wingnut, The Crooked Boot, Kona Ice and Sarah’s Cake Stop will sell snacks, entrees and desserts. (Food truck service is subject to change without notice.)

City of O’Fallon’s 2017 Memorial Day schedule, ceremony

In observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29, the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, and the O’Fallon Parks and Recreation Administration Offices, 400 Civic Park Drive, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366, will be closed for the day.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony, which begin at 11 a.m. at O’Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Belleau Creek Road, O’Fallon 63366. O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy will deliver welcoming remarks and Elizabeth A. Gonzales, Commander of the Missouri American Legion, will be the keynote speaker.

  • In addition. Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center, 403 Civic Park Drive (63366), will be open for the season daily starting Saturday, May 27, with normal pool hours of 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, noon – 7 p.m. on Sundays, and noon – 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.   • O’Fallon’s indoor recreation complex, the Renaud Spirit Center (RSC) at 2650 Tri Sports Circle (63368) will be open on Memorial Day with special hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. www.renaudspiritcenter.com
  • O’Fallon’s trash, recycling and yardwaste service will not change due to the holiday. Residents enrolled in the service should put trash, recycling and yard waste out for collection on their regularly-scheduled day through the week. O’Fallon’s free Public Works Fair puts kids in touch with big equipment used for municipal services

O’Fallon’s kid-friendly Public Works Fair will be held on Wednesday, May 24, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Celebrating National Public Works Week May 21-27, the fair will be held in the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex, 900 T.R. Hughes Boulevard, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Admission and all activities are free, kid-friendly and designed to put residents in touch with services provided by the City's Public Works Department, such as clean drinking water, well-maintained streets and trash, recycling and yard waste collection.

The event features safety awareness games and activities for kids, educational materials for adults, free rides on the O’Fallon City Train for all ages and a free hot dog lunch with chips and water.

O’Fallon’s Armed Forces Day Ceremony will focus on the “Angels of Vietnam”

The public is invited to attend an Armed Forces Day ceremony that will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, at O’Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Belleau Creek Road, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366. Free parking is available.

Armed Forces Day is dedicated to honoring the men and women serving in the five branches of the U.S. military: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Lori Stock, Air National Guard, Retired, will give the keynote address, “Women in the Military: Angels of Vietnam.”

Fort Zumwalt Park closing to vehicles for the annual O’Fallon Cup Criterium Bike Race

To accommodate the O’Fallon Cup Criterium bicycle race, Fort Zumwalt Park in O’Fallon, Missouri, will temporarily close to vehicles at dusk on Friday, May 19, through 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20. The race will be held on Saturday and the public is invited to attend the event, free. Race heats begin at 9 a.m. and continue to 4 p.m. Spectator parking will be available at First Baptist Church of O’Fallon, 8750 Veterans Memorial Parkway (63366).

Register for the RSC Challenge Run and stay afterwards for free entertainment

Hurry to register for this great, family-friendly fitness event, the RSC Challenge Run obstacle course race for ages 8 and up. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12, outside the Renaud Spirit Center (RSC), 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O’Fallon 63368. Some of the course obstacles will be just for fun, while others, like the army crawl and tire run, will require some athletic ability. Participants are allowed to go around obstacles, but those who overcome all the obstacles will be awarded a medal at the end of the race.

After the race, everyone is invited to stay and watch a free showing of Disney’s Moana (rated PG; bring blankets or chairs for seating). Other free attractions include the Bubble machine, a balloon artist and face painting. Food will be available for purchase from Papa John’s Pizza, Chick-fil-A and others. And the RSC will offer a 10% discount available all weekend, May 12 – 14, on membership purchases.

Space available for arts and crafts vendors at O’Fallon’s 2017 Heritage & Freedom Fest

A limited amount of booth space is still available for artists and crafters to sell their original creations at O’Fallon, Missouri’s biggest festival of the year, the Heritage & Freedom Fest. The event will be held July 2, 3 and 4 at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex, 900 T.R. Hughes Boulevard, O’Fallon 63366. Vendors will be able to sell merchandise throughout the festival, which will be open on Sunday 4 -10 p.m., Monday 4 – 11 p.m., and Tuesday noon – 10 p.m. The deadline to file for space is Friday, May 12.

O’Fallon’s Heritage & Freedom Fest starts with Family Night on Sunday featuring carnival rides and a colorful midway, food and beverages, the Bubble Bus, sideshow entertainment and Knockerball. On Monday and Tuesday, the festival gets into full swing with free concerts by headline entertainers and regional bands, fireworks each night, the carnival and midway, free sideshows, free activities in the Kids’ Zone, Knockerball and festival food, beverages and merchandise for sale.

O’Fallon named one of the most affordable cities nationwide for building a dream home

O’Fallon residents or would-be residents who are considering building the home of their dreams will find encouraging news in a report from GoodCall.com, a personal financial website. The report, “2017 Best Cities to Build a Forever Home,” found that O’Fallon offers one of the most affordable and amenable locations in the nation.

The website evaluated 468 cities across the U.S. against criteria that compared the cost of custom home building (30% of the score), the cost of living (20% of the score) and other factors. The top-scoring municipalities are “cities where building a custom home is affordable, as is the cost of living. The cities are generally great places to live with lower crime and unemployment rates, where residents tend to be more educated.”

Plant sales, live music, heritage activities and a petting farm will enliven O’Fallon’s 2017 Founders’ Day & Garden Expo

Enjoy a pretty spring day by shopping for herb, veggie or flowering plants, listen to live acoustic music and try your hand at old-fashioned activities for all ages at O’Fallon’s Founders’ Day & Garden Expo on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The event will be held in Fort Zumwalt Park, 1000 Jessup Drive, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366, and feature vendors with hand-crafted wares and live plants for sale, demonstrations of heritage skills, free old-time activities for kids, a petting farm, and free tree sapling and herb seed giveaways (while supplies last). Food will be available for purchase, with gyros, pulled pork, nachos, hot dogs and cotton candy by Sorelle and shaved ice from Kona Ice.
