Founders' Day & Garden Expo

Saturday, May 7, 2016, Fort Zumwalt Park

Two simultaneous events, one fun-filled day! Celebrate the “good old days” of the late 1800s and bask in O’Fallon’s rich heritage at the City’s annual Founders’ Day. Demonstrations and skills such as basket weaving, rope making, beekeeping and blacksmithing are a main feature of the day. Free hands-on kids’ activities and games include cow milking and cow roping (both simulated), cornhusk doll making and playing checkers.

Zumwalt's Fort and Heald Home tours will be available for a nominal fee. Event admission and parking are free, and concessions and handmade goods will be available for purchase.

At the Garden Expo, experts will provide tips for growing a garden full of veggies and flowers that bloom all season. Boost your home’s curb appeal with live plants and trendy outdoor décor, take home a free shrub or tree sapling while supplies last (one per family), find out all about bees and honey from local beekeepers and get motivated by gardening presentations.

For kids, the event offers creative fun with an upcycled craft and a chance to work off some energy playing games. Other attractions include the St. Charles Model Railroad Club, which will have its scenic, radio-controlled layout on display, free.
