![]() Water/Sewer/Stormwater Stormwater Management About Stormwater When it rains, stormwater washes over the ground picking up pollutants such as oil, soil, fertilizer, metals and pesticides. These pollutants along with the stormwater runoff enter the City’s storm drain system and are discharged untreated to nearby lakes, streams and rivers-the ultimate source of our drinking water. The Stormwater Management Program is the City of O’Fallon’s ongoing commitment to state and federal laws which help improve our community’s water quality. The Stormwater Management’s mission is to:
Everyone has the ability to influence our waterways in a positive or negative way. In order for this program to be successful, we need the support and commitment of the community. Keep O’Fallon’s waterways clean and healthy for people and wildlife. Remember… only rain down the storm drain!
Watersheds No matter where you go, from small towns to big cities, down on the farm or back at the ranch, you're always in a watershed. They come in all shapes and sizes, from millions of square miles to just a few acres. A watershed is an area of land that catches rainfall and melting snow, which in turn, drain into low lying bodies of water. Each one is a dynamic, unique place we call home. It's where we live, work and play. And, how we do each of those things affects the water in the watershed. You may also hear a watershed referred to as a drainage basin or catchment area. |
