First Aid Kits

Assemble a first aid kit for your Disaster Supplies Kit and one for each car. Knowing how to treat minor injuries can make a difference in an emergency.

The basics for your first aid kit should include:

  • First aid manual
  • Adhesive bandages
  • Sterile gauze pads (4-6)
  • Assorted safety pins
  • Cleansing agent/soap
  • Latex gloves (2 pairs)
  • Sunscreen
  • Nonprescription drugs (see list below)
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Needle
  • Moistened towelettes
  • Antiseptic
  • Thermometer (non-mercury)
  • Petroleum jelly or other lubricant

Non-prescription remedies:

  • Aspirin or nonaspirin pain reliever
  • Anti-diarrhea medication
  • Antacid (for upset stomach)
  • Laxative
  • Syrup of ipecac (use to induce vomiting if advised by the poison control center)
  • Activated charcoal (use if advised by the poison control center)
  • Vitamins
  • Topical pain and itch relief cream
  • Add special needs for infants, elderly persons, or anyone with serious allergies
  • Anti-nausea medication or clear, hard candy
