First Aid Kit
Assemble a first aid kit for your Disaster Supplies Kit and one for each car. Knowing how to treat minor injuries can make a difference in an emergency.
The basics for your first aid kit should include:
- First aid manual
- Adhesive bandages
- Sterile gauze pads (4-6)
- Assorted safety pins
- Cleansing agent/soap
- Latex gloves (2 pairs)
- Sunscreen
- Nonprescription drugs (see list below)
- Scissors
- Tweezers
- Needle
- Moistened towelettes
- Antiseptic
- Thermometer (non-mercury)
- Petroleum jelly or other lubricant
Non-prescription remedies:
- Aspirin or nonaspirin pain reliever
- Anti-diarrhea medication
- Antacid (for upset stomach)
- Laxative
- Syrup of ipecac (use to induce vomiting if advised by the poison control center)
- Activated charcoal (use if advised by the poison control center)
- Vitamins
- Topical pain and itch relief cream
- Add special needs for infants, elderly persons, or anyone with serious allergies
- Anti-nausea medication or clear, hard candy
