O’Fallon’s Purple Heart Parking Program dedicates parking spaces in City Parks to combat-wounded

The City of O’Fallon has embraced the national movement to provide designated parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients. The Purple Heart is a U.S. military medal awarded in the name of the President to soldiers who have been wounded or killed in enemy combat.

Beginning this week, parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients are being marked in City parks: CarShield Field, Veterans Walk, Civic Park, Dames Park, Fort Zumwalt Park, the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex, at the Renaud Spirit Center, Sports Park I, Sports Park II and Westhoff Park.

“Our combat-wounded veterans and soldiers have put their lives on the line for our country, our freedom and our way of life,” said Mayor Bill Hennessy. “Dedicated parking is just one small way to honor them, and it’s a great way to remind us that we have warriors living in our community.”
