O’Fallon named one of the country’s Best Small Cities to Raise a Family

When it comes to raising a family, O’Fallon rates among the highest in the nation, coming in at third on a new list of the “Best Small Cities to Raise a Family.”

The listing was compiled by financial lender smartasset.com, which based its determination of best small cities for raising a family on: median housing costs, income, annual childcare costs, high school graduation rates, crime ratings, family poverty rates and the percentage of residents age 20 and under. The number of childcare centers and unemployment rates also were considered.

Public Hearings set for O’Fallon’s Community Development Block Grant Fiscal Year 2018 Annual Action Plan

The City of O’Fallon, Missouri, will conduct two public hearings concerning the Fiscal Year 2018 Annual Action Plan for the O’Fallon Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

  • On Thursday, October 19, 2017, a public hearing will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the O’Fallon Municipal Center (City Hall), 100 North Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri 63366.
  • A second public hearing will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Crider Health Center, 1032 Crosswinds Court, Wentzville, Missouri 63385.

Those who need assistance or auxiliary aids for the hearings should contact Public Assistance Specialist Alexis Jaegers at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. O’Fallon’s Haunted Park Hunt is wickedly good after-dark fun for adults

If you’ve got a flashlight, you’re all set for a spook-tacular date night, a scavenger hunt in Dames Park for ages 21 and over. The O’Fallon’s “Haunted Park Hunt” will be held from 7 – 10 p.m. on Friday, October 20. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams earning the most points.

The cost per couple is $30 for O’Fallon residents and $36 for non-residents. Be sure to register by Friday, October 13; no registration will be taken at the gate.It’s easy to sign up for the Haunted Park Hunt (course 210207-A):

Fort Zumwalt Park temporarily closing to traffic and disc golf on Monday, October 9, for Celebration of Lights setup

To prepare for the City’s annual Celebration of Lights, Fort Zumwalt Park is closing to vehicles starting Monday, October 9, through January 15, 2018, so that crews can safely install holiday lights and scenes for the City’s annual Celebration of Lights display. The park’s disc golf course, “The Fort,” also will be closed during this period.

Pedestrians are welcome during daylight hours, but for safety’s sake are required to stay on the paved drive through the park, which has a designated lane for walkers and joggers. And everyone is invited to see the Celebration of Lights, which will be open the day after Thanksgiving at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 24 through December 30, closing only for Christmas, December 25.

Mayor Bill Hennessy and O’Fallon City Council Appoint New City Administrator

Mayor Bill Hennessy and the City Council of O’Fallon, Missouri, approved the appointment of David Strahl as O’Fallon’s new City Administrator during tonight’s O’Fallon City Council meeting. The appointment of Strahl concludes a national search that began in May of this year. He will officially begin his tenure with O’Fallon on October 2, 2017.

Strahl comes to O’Fallon from Illinois, where he served in numerous roles in city management, most recently serving nearly 23 years as the Assistant Village Manager and Acting Village Manager for Mount Prospect, Illinois. Altogether, he brings more than 30 years of experience in city management and public administration to O’Fallon.
