Neighborhood Preservation Team

Protecting the health and vitality of our neighborhoods is a key aspect in maintaining the safety and security of our citizens.

O’Fallon’s Neighborhood Preservation Team (NPT) takes a pro-active approach to handling the City’s nuisance violations, while protecting public health and neighborhood safety. The NPT works with local organizations, the O’Fallon Police Department and neighborhood organizations to:

  • Identify property in violation of the City’s nuisance or code ordinances
  • Determine if violators (residents and landowners) have overriding problems interfering with their ability to resolve violations
  • If help is needed, offer assistance
  • Recruit volunteers and organizations that help can people in need, then supervise those activities
  • Pressure absentee landlords to maintain City Properties

What is Code Enforcement?

Code Enforcement ordinances encourage residents to keep their homes in good repair and their yards tidy. The laws are designed to protect public health and property values.

In some cases, poor health or job loss can make routine home and yard care difficult and unaffordable. That’s why the Neighborhood Preservation Team has been established - to determine if special help is needed, and to find volunteers and organizations willing to provide that help.

Who staffs O’Fallon’s Neighborhood Preservation Team?

The Team is composed of City staff from the Police Department, Building Safety, Citizens First Center, Code Enforcement, Community Development Block Grant office, Parks and Recreation, Public Relations, Street Division and Volunteer Services.

In addition, the City will tap resources offered by not-for-profit organizations, businesses and neighborhood volunteers.
